  • Offline NT Password & Registry Editor did not change my Administrator password

    Microsoft XP
    Professional
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 1

Gentlemen! I have read the article and the forum stickies carefully. I downloaded, burned and booted through "Offline NT Password & Registry Editor." While it certainly -looked- very cool, I do not think the Administrator password was changed. I tried both using an * to make a blank password, and with a simple string. I saved my changes when I went to quit. All of the output from the program was very encouraging and said "Successful this" and "Successful that". I let ChkDisk run.

When I logged back into the computer under my username, I went to Control Panel > Users and was prompted for the password for Administrator . I was told that the password was incorrect. On my home Home XP boxthere is a graphical interface to select your user account. Here at work we just type our LAN ID at login.

Have I done anything foolish or daft, or is this a chin-scratcher?
