  • XP Home Edition: user don't remember any password

    User used to startup with a default account (not CTRL-ALT-DEL) and di'dn't use any password. In safe mode teh Administrator's account could be entered by just clicking the icon.
    Now, somehow the CTRL-ALT-DEL logonwindows appears asking for a password, which he doesn't know, leaving the PC inaccesible.

    How can I get in the system to reset the password?? His daughter needs to chat via MSN (...)

    try to logon with administrator and blank password

    then change the users password

    or use http://www.petri.com/forgot_administrator_password.htm

      Been there, didn't work

      Been there, didn't work, tried several options (friends names kids names etc. etc. ), but can't get in on his or administrator account

        try using the locksmith utility from winternals erd commander.

        or backup the data and reinstall the os

          When you say it didn't work, what tool did you try, what method, and what errors did you get?
