  • Windows XP Administrator Password

    Hello all. Thanks in advance for any help.

    This is my problem:
    I need to retreive / clear the Administrator's acount password.
    I have fisical access to the laptop and i can login as normal user.
    Re-install windows (on top of existing or on another folder) is not possible.
    I have a recover cd (Linux Sys Rec from wich was many features) but unfortunaly, hard drive is not acessible from there (S-ATA hardrive with ICH7Mobile sata driver).

    Does anyone know a way to remove admin pass? Has i've said, i dont need to kown it. just need to clear it.

    Thanks again.

      Hello biggles77.

      "Have you tried anything at this link? ttp://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=2438"

      Forgot the Administrator's Password?:
      http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm
      Almost all of them. None worked. The biggest problem is to find a boot software that recognise the hard drive. As i said is a sata drive and need a driver at boot time. Since the system does not have a floppy ... no chance.

      Forgot the Administrator's Password? - Alternate Logon Trick:
      http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...ogon_trick.htm
      Not an option as i mentioned

      Forgot the Administrator's Password? - Change Domain Admin Password in Windows 2000 AD:
      http://www.petri.co.il/reset_domain_...ws_2000_ad.htm
      Does not apply

      Forgot the Administrator's Password? - Change Domain Admin Password in Windows Server 2003 AD:
      http://www.petri.co.il/reset_domain_...er_2003_ad.htm
      Does not apply

      Thanks anyway.

        Re: Windows XP Administrator Password

        Get the SATA driver and intergrate it into the boot CD. You haven't mentioned if this is a laptop or a desktop system but I would guess laptop.
        SATA drivers are here but you will need to know your chipset (can be found in laptop/motherboard manual). http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-015001.htm

          Hi biggles77.
          Thanks again.

          I've said on first post, and yes, its a laptop.
          Get the SATA driver and intergrate it into the boot CD
          I've tried this tiwce : http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...id=1703&page=1
          but did not work. Or i have the wrong sata drivers (get it from hp, make the floppy and copy/paste) or i'm doing something wrong (most problably).

          Anyway... thank's for answering.

            Re: Windows XP Administrator Password

            Hi,
            I'm afraid I am in the same boat. I have WIN XP on my laptop and cannot recall the admin password. I've tried boot disks, changing it within the system, repair through win xp disc but no go. Everything I try says the same thing. Cannot access because I can only log on through a limited account. I am at your mercy here because I desperately need to be able to access my admin account. Most ways I have tried have said please log on as Administrator to complete, and I can't. I even waited 3 days after submitting request to retrieve the password from loginrecovery.com and it says we're sorry, we were unable to retrieve your password. I don't know what else to do? Do I have to just reformat from here and lose everything? Will it even let me reformat? I have read every post/site/tip/trick I could find to get it to reset or retrieve the password, with no result. I would greatly appreciate any information you may have that I can try as well. I am leaving on an overseas trip within a few days and really need to try and take care of this before I go or I will be SOL.

            Thanks for your time,
            PJ

              Re: Windows XP Administrator Password

              Hi PJustice01.

              I'm assuming that your problem is the same that mine (ie, you cannot re-install windows in another folder).
              This is how i solved my problem (not an easy one ):
              1 - Get an external drive (usb is fine);
              2 - Get a boot cd that was able to access my hard drive:
              http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=88964
              (note this cd has a tool thas wipes windows passwords, try it, might work for you)
              3 - Use Ranish to make a full hard drive copy to a new hard drive (witch was on the usb);
              4 - With that copy in the new hard drive i has able to access the recover hp partion and make the recover dvd's;
              5 - Format and re-install with the "just made" dvd's.

              Note that my goal was to do exactly that, make the recover dvd and then format.

              Thanks to all that take the time to read my question, and a big thanks to biggles77 that replied.

                  Re: Windows XP Administrator Password

                  Thanks Pedro, but I tried the boot disk like I said. The rest of what you said is pretty much greek to me. I have no understanding of the link showing how to copy a hard drive to an external drive. The only thing external I have is a floppy which is what I used to do the boot disks with. None of them worked. I leave to go overseas on 2 days and without my laptop I am dead in the water.
