  • Unable to login to Win2K laptop [was: Help]

    Hi there,

kinda really need some help please.

If it helps its a Toshiba S1710.

The problem - when I switch the laptop on the "log onto windows" box pops up and requires a password for the user.

I suspect I deleted (in errror!) the "user" from from the laptop.

    Anything I can do?

Tried starting it in safe mode but the box still comes up.

    Its running windows professional 2000.

    Thanks, hopefully....

Is this a standalone laptop or is it on a Domain?
If standalone, boot into Safe Mode and try logging on as Administrator and no password. If that doesn't work then try one of the options here. http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=2438

If it is a Domain machine then you will need to talk to your IT support people as you may have removed it from the Domain.

      Hi,

      thanks for the prompt reply.

      Its a single home laptop.

I think the problems worse than a forgotten password. Possible a deleted user!

The laptop boots up in normal or safe mode and the firs thing it asks for is the password for the user that has possibly been deleted. I know the password but it doesnt appear to be recognised. The password I have is correct.

Kinda hoping I can either do a system restore but to do that I need to bypass this "log on" box.

      Thanks again,

Did you click on the link I provided and try the suggestions on that page?

          Hi,

I read the links but I cant do any of the suggestions.

When I switch the laptop on I am met by the "Log On" box.

It knows the user and I know the password.

I cannot get past this page to do system restore, control panel, nothing.

The only option available to me is switch the laptop off.

I am sure the "user" whose being remembered has been deleted from the PC.

If I use an ERD from boot up would that work?

          Thanks again for your patience
