  • Reset admin pwd on XP home Vaio laptop

The bootable CD from http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ was unable to reset the password.

I suspect I've caused more damage than can be easily resolved.

The reason why the password reset program will not work appears to be because the registry hives load as 'read only':
    Code:
    NTFS volume version 3.1
NTFS-fs warning (device sda2): load_system_files(): Unsupported volume flags 0x4000 encountered.
NTFS-fs error (device sda2): load_system_files(): Volume has unsupported flags set. Mounting read-only. Run chkdsk and mount in Windows.
The following thread leads me to believe that the situation is recoverable: http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=10956
Each time the machine tries to boot, the files in the system32/config directory are updated to the current date, leading me to believe that the files are writable in the right environment.

Would the laptop be likely to restart if I was able to copy the files from the repair folder to the system32/config folder as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545?

At the moment I'm unable to figure out how to do this and it would appear to be beyond the capabilities of Petter Nordahl's program. Can anyone suggest how this might be achieved or is the existence of the Lsass.exe password error message an unrecoverable condition?
