  • What Corporate Virus Software are you guys using?

Our network consists of 120 PCs and Servers. I already use an outside service for SPAM/Virus protection. (Our MX record points to this service and I have our SMTP server set to accept messages ONLY from this services IPs) I let our service with Norton lapse since I have felt fairly confident in this email filtering service.

I have now changed my mind and am starting to think of all the what if's so now I want some redundant inhouse server based virus protection.

What are you guys using with success that is centrally managed and deployed via a server? I really don't care for Norton very much and I don't want a bundled solution with every kind of "blocker" known to man as a part of it's software suite. I am only interested in virus and maybe spyware protection.

Anti-virus . Asking this question will get you many varied answers. It is a bit like what is the better car, Porche, Alfa or Ferarri. The correct answer is "whatever works for you".
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

Like any IT task the correct answer is what are the risks, threads etc. that your company should protect itself and how much $ they like to spend on it.
I will give you a strange answer now: You will need at least 3 antivirus vendors...
There lots of aspects what to do and why but this should be resolve offline by using external consult company.

This has sparked my curiosity. Are you saying to evaluate at least 3 different vendors or use 3 different vendors?

Sophos seems to be a popular corporate choice... unlike some home packages that pretend to be corporate suites!

no, i guess he ment using 3 different vendors.

For this example i uses 4 vendors. I've never set something like this up, but it's a possibility

Ok here it goes. For example:
              • Use a Aladdin esafe as a gateway scanner.
              • Use Mcafee for clients and servers
              • use Antigen on the exchange servers.
              • Use Kaspersky on you're ISA Server

so if mail comes in, it goes through esafe; through Antigen; Through Mcafee.

If you visiting a webpage, it goes through Esafe;kaspersky and Mcafee.

and so on and on and on....

Ah, I see. Have the data go through multiple vendors' products because depending on the threat one vendor's engine might be more effective than the others' or one vendor's definitions might be more up-to-date than the others'.
