  • PC won't turn on!

    System info:
Intel 865G Mother board with Intel 3.0GHz CPU.
    256MB RAM
    40Gb Hard Disk

    Problem?
The Computer Turns (The power supply and CPU fans are on) on but nothing is displayed on the screen!
There isn't even that startup beep when you switch it on.
I was called and told that the mouse pointer doesn't move!
Then i told them to restart it using the restart button. Thats where problem began because after restarting, i was called again and told that the screen doesn't display anything.

I went there and checked that all cables are connected but still nothing. I even tried switching it on after disconnecting the network card, hard drive, CD Rom, and floppy disk.

    Please help!

Remove your memory sticks and see if you get the correct post beeps for missing memory.

    Is the GC on-board??

        Re: PC won't turn on!

Is it running through a UPS?
        What operating system?
Can you try a different power supply?
Does the hard drive light flash like it is booting?
Is there any noise from the HDD like when it is booting?
Is the screen LCD or CRT monitor? Has the screen just been changed to an LCD?
If CRT, does the power light go green, blink green or go amber?
Can you get into the BIOS?

        2 2 was 1 2.

This to me would point to the graphics card.

Can you try another one in the machine and see what happens.

Have you also to tried to reset the BIOS to clear any exisiting configuration??

            I'll Try Another Graphics Card.
I've Tried Resetting The Bios, Without Any Luck

Would this possibly be a HP system?

i've only seen this when the controller was wrongly connected either to CDrom or harddisk drive or even the floppydisk

                  Re: PC won't turn on!

I've tried another Graphics card without any success. This is a Mecer not an HP!
@ the moment i've only connected the RAM and the CPU on the board! (No IDE cables etc. connected)
I even checked the CPU on another machine, and it works fine, but when i insert another CPU on the troubled PC, still nothing!

                  Any more Suggestions?

Your mother board is probably faulty.

                        Re: PC won't turn on!

You've tested the main components on a nother system so that means you are left with your motherboard.

Motherbaords aren't too expensive nowaday's. You should be able to pick one up cheap enough from eBay.

Did you check the power supply. If it is deliverying incorrect voltage on even one of it's rails then it could cause your problem. A power supply load tester could easily test it.

I never even thought about that. Good call.

                              Nice link Wullie!

Please note that testing your power supply using this method is done AT YOUR OWN RISK. This site (http://www.petri.com) can not be held responsible if any damage is done to you or your system components.

Had to put a disclaimer for safety reasons. Personally I would test my PSU this way if I didn't have a cheapo load tester.
