  • Help - Toshiba Notebook Hard Disk

    Hi all,

I have a funny situation with my Toshiba Satellite hard disk. It can not be reconized when I install it internally. But, when I put it in an external USB hard disk case and connect it to my desktop PC, it works perfectly.

It is in NTFS format with WindowsXP Pro. I have some files to take from the drive, but fail to because they are in Documents and Settings folder of a password protected user.

    My questions are:
    1. What is wrong with the hard disk?
    2. How to get my files from the disk?

Please advise me what to do. Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

    Warm regards from Jakarta-Indonesia,
    Val

Ps: Now, I have installed a new Toshiba hard disk, but still need the files from the old disk.

If the new HDD is in the laptop then copy the files you require when you have to old one connect by the USB external disk case.

    2 2 was 1 2.

      Dear biggles77,

      Thanks for your reply.
The problem is, the files are in the "documents and settings" folder of a password protected user in WindowsXP NTFS format. I can not copy (not even see) the content of the folders because access was denied.

I tried the Petter Nordahl's utility to reset the password, but it can only apply to my new system, not my old system in the external case.

Can you give me some other ideas?

      Thanks.

      Regards,
      Val

Did you Take Ownership of the Documents and Settings folder on the old drive?
