  • 32 bit and 64 bit compatibity

    Hi,

    Will an 32 bit application run on 64 bit ?
    Also, Can it work in reverse?

    A) Generally Yes -- will install into the Program Files (x86) folder and run quite happily
    B) Defnitely NO -- 64bit apps require a 64 bit OS

        It's a case of making sure the 32 bit application supports WOW64, which allows them to run on a 64 bit machine. Either the supplier knows, google knows or you find out through your own testing. Sometimes you need to mitigate to make it compatible using things such as a shim using the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) and Sysinternals Process Monitor.
