Can anyone suggest any good environmental monitoring & management systems.

Im building a new domain and would like something decent like MOM. Ive never used MOM but heard its the nuts although this could just be a load of rubbish.

    What do you guys use?

Can you give us more details of what exactly you are trying to monitor?
MOM is now well and truely replaced by SCOM (System Centre Operations Manager) which is a very powerful product, although the learning curve is steep.
There are many third party monitoring solutions, some free (Spiceworks and Nagios for example)

Some idea of the scale of our environment, what sort of systems it has * and potential budget might be useful too.

      * keep in mind that the type (and vendor) of various systems may have some impact over what you deploy. While there are monitoring solutions that will suit 99% of systems around, they won't be specialised to any given platform. You may therefore want to look at a dedicated product to specifically monitor certain key servers.

+1 for SCOM being powerful but a beast to maintain.

+2 on SCOM being a PITA - it's great once you get it configured but it's a lot of work to get there.

We used to use System Center Essentials but it had many of the same issues as SCOM on a smaller scale. These days we use GFI MAX monitoring (used to be HoundDog) which works pretty well.
