  • tool that consumes entire memory on a server

    Hi all,

    I am not able to take a Quiesce guest file system snapshot for a vm, it fails with an error message "Cannot create a quiesced snapshot because the create snapshot operation exceeded the time limit for holding off I/O in the frozen virtual machine"

    I googled it up and there were many suggestions... till yesterday things were working fine ... and differential backup did go well too....

    It was mentioned in a link if there is too much I/O then also the backup might fail. On this server memory utilization is close to 100% and CPU is very high too.

    I want to test this that high CPU and Memory on a server might fail quiesce snapshot. For CPU there is tool called cpu hogger that can take the cpu utilization to 100%.

    but for memory I am not able to find any .... is there any tool like cpu hogger that utilize 100% of memory on the server ... then I can try snapshot thing

    or is there any other way via which memory utilization can reach 100% and stay there -- till the time I want.

    I apologize if cpu hogger tool is a spam and should not have been used in the forums (according to the rules) ... I am not sure about this ....

    Thank you all in advance

    There are many tools available to stress or test CPU and memory.
    For example Loadstorm

    or;
    MaxCPU
    Leakyapp
    IOMeter
    consume
    CPUStress

    Or maybe you are looking something like memtestx86?
