  • Strange in installing SQL Server 2000

    Hi,

    It's really strange for me.

The value of Common files folder ( CommonFilesDir) in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
    entVersion
always change to 'P:\Program Files\Common Files' although I reset the value to 'D:\Program Files\Common Files' ( P is the drive mapped to my network folder ).

When I run SQL Setup, it create a 'Windows' folder in P:.
I searched in the registry and replace P: with D: but it seems not enough.

    Antivirus was always updated.

Now, I couldn't install SQL because SQL recognize P: as a system drive, it didn't have enough space for the installation. I could empty it but it's not good.

Have you met it ? Thanks for any ideas

Are you getting any error in the Event Viewer when you try to install SQL?

Re: Strange in installing SQL Server 2000

Does SQL not look at the drive with the most amount of space on it??

If that is the case then drop the network drive for the moment and try the installation again.

Re: Strange in installing SQL Server 2000

                  Hi,

I had no error related to SQL in Event Viewer.

My C: & D : drives had free space more than my network drive P:.

I also tried to disconnect the network drive. Then I met the error tell me that couldn't install because couldn't see my P: drive.

I could see there're 5 .iss files. Which files shall I modify? And after modifying, just click the setup file to install ? I tried google, but there's not many result about unattended installation of SQL.

                  Thanks,

Re: Strange in installing SQL Server 2000

Is this an attended or unattended installation of SQL?

Sorry. Looks silly that I don't know are there difference between attended and unattended SQL installation. Like Unattanded Windows Installation ?

                          Thank for all,

I wish I could try. I repaired Windows and it seems OK. I will try unattended installation later.
