  • HP computer sending Monitor to sleep

Had a problem with a computer at work,, It is a HP compaq tower and to save space when we set them up in offices we lay them on their side with LCD monitor sitting on top. This one pc would send the monitor into sleep mode and would only bring the monitor back up when it was rebooted but only for around 10-15 minutes before it would send the monitor back to sleep. however this pc would work fine when it was left standing upright. Any ideas as to why people.

Maybe the Graphics Card is overheating and for safety the PC is shutting it down.

Ensure all space around the desktop is cleared for good ventilation, also check that no internal cables are lying on the GPU fan etc etc.

We use the onboard card ,, ventilation is good. To me it sounds like something is faulty on the motherboard. Really i wanted to see if there was anyone out there who had experienced this problem before.

I'm tending to the hard drive being faulty now as ive found the whole system shutsdown well not like windows shuts down but the powersupply fans and and cpu fan and system fans all stop but the power light remains on.. Kinda freaky really. the system just locks up.

Try a voltage tester on the power supply. A drop in voltage could cause the problem you described. If the power supply is not proprietry you could try another unit and see if the problem still persists.

heh yeah the first thing we did was change the power supply, however a change of motherboard seems to have fixed the problem,, lmao now it wont connect to the domain. im beginning to think it is demon possessed
