  • User Internet activity report

Is it possible to generate a report on a users Internet activity by reading a users temporary internet files and folders.

Are there any tools out there that can perform this or is there a tool I can install that will monitor and report back later.

We do not use a Proxy server, although I am begining to think this is going to be a requirment for future.

You cn check a users history to see where they have been.

You can also check index.dat and it will show you as well.

Look for a tool called WinSpy Index.dat Viewer.

I want to generate a report of when and where the user has been, without visiting the users machine.

        \\csmith\c$\Documents and Settings\xxusernamexx\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

Winspy will tell me what has been accessed but not when.

I could remote control and install winspy on the users machine but ...

        A. This could alert them
        b. No Print option from within Winspy

I was only letting you know what i usually do m8. I usually only do this on a needs basis though and have only had to once this year.

I know of know automated software that will allow you to check up on what users are doing other than a proxy server of some sort.

What type of firewall are you using?? We use Sonicwalls in our place and there is a feature that we can see what users have been accessing the net and how much they have downloaded, services that are accessing the net. It's not very thorough but it does help when you have nowt.

Could be time to implement a proxy server m8.

            Thanks for the comments everyone

I think it's time to install a Proxy, (ISA) most likely.

And yes your are right "wullieb1" Sonic does have a module to monitor traffic, as firewalls go, I like the sonics, but I wouldn't waste any more money to add the required features, not when the support back from sonic is that "Unit Fails - So do your lincense" embed in it.
