Does anyone know of a good alternative to SharePoint? I have a client that is using an older version of SharePoint and is basically using it for document management only. This organization has a metric ton of documents that they have scanned in. SharePoint is used to index them and for searching for the files.

Are there any alternatives that people here have used? I am open to looking at opensource software, I just want something that has been around for a while and is supported.

      Re: SharePoint Alternatives

      Hi,

We required an intranet at work so I built one on Joomla, which works OK.

The document management is not very good.

You can synchronise your AD accounts with Joomla, so they have the same username and passwords.

Joomla is opensource, which would meet your requirements.

Depending on your workload, I would look at sharepoint 2010, it's functionality has improved tenfold from 2007, and light years ahead of 2003.

Really depends on budget and their requirements.

If I had the time and the budget, I would go for 2010 and rebrand it accordingly.

      Thanks,

      G.

You may want to look at HyperOffice. Founded in 1998, and one of the most prominent companies to position itself as a "sharepoint alternatives". It's got a web based document management system, with windows explorer integration, a very simple intranet publisher, and many other collaboration features.

          Check out - hyperoffice.com/sharepoint-alternative/
