Looking for some software to log problems - helpdesk stuff

As above, im looking after a helpdesk and I want some software that I can log all problems on (like a database but not online) and can close cases etc. Anyone know of any out there? I have searched but most seem to be all online ones

    Thanks

You could try NetSupport DNA Helpdesk.

This product recently won the 'Service Management Product of the Year' at the Network Computing Awards.

Search the forum, this has been brought up many times. A lot of people like Spiceworks (FREE). These links can help you decide:

Some open source ones (just found them w/ google, never heard of them before):
    http://osticket.com/
    http://otrs.org/

Personally ATM at work we use a shared Excel file on a shared drive. Sucks, but works for us ATM because we don't need a real ticket system per se.

I can highly recommend Issueview - www.issueview.com. It's incredibly customisable - before I left my previous job, I'd started work on a configuration management database within it, but I've also done an out-of-the-box installation for a client aqnd he was very happy with it

Basically, it's got a Web interface, a thick client interface, and a database backend. You can integrate it with AD, and then add "helpdesk" to your favourites, so that users can log their own requests, and view what's happening to them.

It's around 2,500 for a mutli user license, but I've found the support to be excellent, when asked about exchange integration, was told "not yet, but we could work on it if you wanted to upgrade"

It also supports, in the newer versions, timed events - so if a case has been logged, and not actioned witin 2 days, it can re-notify you for instance, or escalte to a manager.. etc.
