  • phpMyAdmin Installation

    Hi,
    I know this is largely a Windows forum but hey, you're all smart people and I am a Windows tech (though sometimes I don't feel like it).

    I am trying to install phpMyAdmin for my campaign site (the "Science, Just Science" Campaign) using the web based installation method ... I am using version 3.2.5.

    I have uploaded in and, sticking with the defaults as far as possible:

    Verbose name of this server [default: blank]
    Server hostname [default: localhost]
    Server port [default: blank]
    Server socket [default: blank]
    Use SSL [default: unchecked]
    Connection type [default: tcp]
    PHP extension to use [default: mysqli]
    Compress connection [default: unchecked]
    Authentication type [default: cookie]
    User for config auth [default: root]
    Password for config auth [default: blank]
    Connect without password [default: unchecked]
    SweKey config file [suggested: /etc/swekey.conf]
    IOW I have run the setup in my browser and configured as above.

    My problem is I am unable to log in ... I Only need this to correct a forum issue so can anyone provide any assistance with this?

      If I try to Login without a password I get:

      "Login without a password is forbidden by configuration (see AllowNoPassword)"

      Which is logical enough except that I get the same error if I check the box saying "Connect without password")

      I uncheck that and configure a password root/<password> gives me:

      "#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)"

        Hi Kyu,

        Where about is the config.inc.php file?
        If not already there try to put directly in the phpMyAdmin directory.

          There was none ... it was in the config folder (which was what the instructions told me to cretae).

          I've copied it to the phpMyAdmin folder but it acts even weirder.

          Just for info, this is my config.inc.php file:

          Code:
          <?php
          /*
           * Generated configuration file
           * Generated by: phpMyAdmin 3.2.5 setup script by Piotr Przybylski <[email protected]>
           * Date: Thu, 28 Jan 2010 11:19:45 +0000
           */

          /* Servers configuration */
          $i = 0;

          /* Server: localhost [1] */
          $i++;
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose'] = '';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = '';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = '';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'tcp';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysqli';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'cookie';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = <password>;
          $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_swekey_config'] = './swekey.conf';

          /* End of servers configuration */

          $cfg['blowfish_secret'] = '4b615a5ab49106.83493338';
          $cfg['DefaultLang'] = 'en-utf-8';
          $cfg['ServerDefault'] = 1;
          $cfg['UploadDir'] = '';
          $cfg['SaveDir'] = '';
          ?>
          Does that help any?

          Kyu

          p.s. There's no './swekey.conf' file anywhere I can see ... don't know how relevant that is.

            Re: phpMyAdmin Installation

            I am not sure about this release but in the past I've always used to edit the config file manually instead of the GUI way as it seemed more reliable.

            When you say Weirder what exactly do you mean?

              The preferred method for the open source community

              Maybe you can provide me with a skeleton config.inc.php file so I can change mine manually?

              I think that may have been some kind of caching effect ... it's recovered now.

                It was out of desperation actually because it wasn't working otherwise.

                In the directory there should be a sample file already (Used to anyway) called
                config.Sample.inc.php (Or similar)

                There should also be a Documentation.html in there to guide you through
