Re: How to add a PORT in a DNS record

    Hi,

This should not be on this Suggestions and Feedback forum.
Also just to clarify, DNS records are used as part of the name resolution process and "Ports" are used by applications/processes to communicate with each other.
I can't see a direct correlation between the two unless it is properly explained what you are trying to achieve.

Moved to Misc until it become clear where it shall call home.

The OP's question may really be a Port Forward question. Jaihunt, could you please clarify exactly what you are trying to achieve. Ta.

          Guys,

sorry 4 the confusion, actually i created a website i want that website to be accessed through a purticular port rather than 80, i allowed that purticular port in my firewall, the thing is i m runnin several other websites also in tat server. while accessing the website locally i will use http://192.168.0.1:8888 like tat i want to register a url 4 this please tell me whether i need to create a record or mention this port anywhere else. FYI i am going to NAT this IP to public IP.

Re: How to add a PORT in a DNS record

You can't add port numbers to a DNS record.
You can register www.domain.com but still if you want to access that site you need to use www.domain.com:8888

But why not using a different (internal) IP address for that website?

If you are running multiple web site on the one server then Host Headers is maybe what you should be looking at.

              or host headers

                Hey Friends,

When I register the site the service provider gave me account to create My website where i can Mention my Public IP for the web site & there is another TAB where i can give CNAME record & can Mention the Port no to be used there. Thanx Dumber I will try tat solution too.. to give different Internal IP for this web site.
