  • Sharepoint 2007: Permission to edit master pages with Sharepoint Designer

    Hi all

I'm trying to edit a master page in Sharepoint 2007. From the site admin page i've chosen the master page list but when I click the drop down on the master page I want to edit I dont get the following menu:

I only get a few options (View properties, Send to, Versions History and Alert me). What permission change do I need to make to get this full menu? I want to be able to pick Edit in Microsoft Office Sharepoint Designer.

    Thanks in advance

Have you opened the page you want to edit and then gone to File, Edit with SharePoint Designer?

You can then locate the 'master page' used and then choose the option to edit it from there.

I edit all our SharePoint sites using this method.

Are you using a 'publishing' template?

Yes tried that but I was getting Access Denied.

I have since found the solution:

Central Administration > Application Management > Policy for Web Application

Pick the right Web Application (mine isn't http://sharepoint that I kept changing!!!), next > Type in the user to give permission to > Click FULL CONTROL > Finish!!!

      Woohoo!

They like to make it easy don't they Chris. SharePoint layout (admin wise) just seems so illogical to me. But then, maybe that's just me.

For anyone wanting to learn SharePoint 2007 and get a jump start, then I can recommend http://www.trainsignal.com/SharePoin...ining-P25.aspx . Without it I would be really lost and I carry the Lab with me on my iPhone so I have a ready reference.
