  • running xp aplication on win 98

    Hi,
I have a pentium 3 computer with win 98 se.
I have a program that works only on xp.
I dont want to install dualboot only for this application.
Installing virtual pc can do the trick or do i need another solution?
    Thanks,
    Bendi

Have you actually tried installing the app on Win 9x ? Sometimes the manufacturer only supports the software on Win XP and nothing else but the software will actually run fine.

P.S Do it on a test machine first !!

P.P.S If it doesn't work the VPC is the only way to go without dual boot (although don't know if any VPC software will run on Win 98 !!)

The Virtual PC application requires a 400 MHz Pentium-compatible processor (1 GHz is recommended), and requires approximately 20 MB of disk space. It runs on Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 Professional.

only dual boot will solve the problem
      Good Luck

Dunno never used a site, there is nothing to it.

Create Partitions with Fdisk (or similar)
Install Windows 98 on Primary Partition
                Install WindowsXP on Secondary.

                Done.

I dont wont to fdisk because i have win 98 installed already on the primary partition whith tons of programs.
Do i just have to install the xp on the secondry partition?
                  Thanks,

yes you can install on the second partition.

just remember never convert the system partition to ntfs. if you do this the windows 98 wont boot

also don't convert the disk to dynamic, windows 98 dont support it
                    Good Luck
