  • Can i use a large HD in an old comp (dos) and use only 8G?

    Hi
I have an old computer with Dos system
The motherboard and the system can't recognize HD biger the 8G
    can i put a HD 80G (I will use only 8G) and i'll make Fdisk o setting to 8G
(8G is big enough for me)
Is that going to work fine?

    Thanks

      As Topper noted: Why...

Anyway with that said you should be able to do what you've desribed using the hdd utility that is provided by the drive manufacturer.

I used to use a 1Gig drive in my IBM PS/Value Point, the BIOS would pick it up as a 27meg drive, but I still had access to the entire 1 gig after using the disk tool that came with the drive.

The disk tool would basically mount the drive as a 27meg drive, load a small firmware patch into the RAM, un mount the drive, re-mount the drive, and then allow the full 1gig of storage to be accessed.
