  • How do I get streaming videos to play smoother?

My computer is an 8 years old DELL OptiPlex GX110. I'm currently using Windows 2000 professional. I can generally play most streaming videos fine, such as those on YouTube and on most TV station sites. But, when I try to play higher quality videos they are very choppy. Like, I'll see one frame and then a couple of seconds later I'll see another frame. Is there anything I can to do make videos play better or is my computer just too old?

I guess the obvious things would be check you have a good quality and fast internet connection, update all drivers (esp video) and close any other processes that may be running before you start.

Well, I have Comcast digital, so I don't think my connection speed is the problem. How do I determine what drivers I need to download?

Can't really do much from the internet testing side of things so will take your word
Drivers, first run windows update and make sure it is up to date, check latest direct x as well.
For your machine we would need to know what hardware is in there.
Can you look in device manager and tell us what you have for display and sound adapters.
        cheers

This is an 8 year old machine with an onboard video. Only real solution I see is to see if you can find an AGP Video Card to pop into the board or to junk it and get a new (or newer) system.

Try that link and get the drivers that are relevant.
              They may help.

Could also try letting the video fully download before playing it. or find a different source for the video that plays better on your system.
