    This is designed to be a list of free tools available for Admins to check the health of their networks and, with any luck, help diagnose problems too. Please let me know if there are errors or omissions, hopefully this list will grow over time.
    Please make sure you investigate and are happy with them before you utilise any of them because most of them can cause damage in the wrong hands.

    2003 Resource Kit
    The Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools are a set of tools to help administrators streamline management tasks such as troubleshooting operating system issues, managing Active Directory®, configuring networking and security features, and automating application deployment.

    IIS6 Support Kit
    The IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools can help you administer, secure, and manage IIS.

    This command-line diagnostic tool compares and detects differences between naming contexts on domain controllers.

    2003 x32 SP2 Support Tools
    The Windows Support Tools for Microsoft Windows 2003 are intended for use by Microsoft support personnel and experienced users to assist in diagnosing and resolving computer problems.

    Sonar.exe is a graphical tool that allows administrators to monitor key statistics and status about members of a file replication service (FRS) replica set. Administrators can use Sonar to watch key statistics on a replica set in order to monitor traffic levels, backlogs, and free space.

    SysInternals Suite
    Includes amongst others:
    Windows Server 2003 introduces the ability to restore deleted ("tombstoned") objects. This simple command-line utility enumerates the deleted objects in a domain and gives you the option of restoring each one.
    The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.
    PsKill is a kill utility that not only does what the Resource Kit's version does, but can also kill processes on remote systems.

    Microsoft Product Support's Reporting Tools
    The Microsoft Platform Support Reporting Utility facilitates the gathering of critical system and logging information used in troubleshooting support issues.

    Perf diag tool for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

    ADPlus Troubleshooting Tool
    PSS Tool for troubleshooting any process or application that stops responding (hangs) or fails (crashes).

    Account Lockout and Management Tools
    Download tools that you can use to troubleshoot account lockouts, as well as add functionality to Active Directory.

    Performance diagnostic tool for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

    Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser 2.1
    Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) is an easy-to-use tool that helps small and medium businesses determine their security state in accordance with Microsoft security recommendations and offers specific remediation guidance.

    Access-Based Enumeration
    Windows Server 2003 Access-based Enumeration makes visible only those files or folders that the user has the rights to access. When Access-based Enumeration is enabled, Windows will not display files or folders that the user does not have the rights to access. This download provides a GUI and a CLI that enables this feature.

    Group Policy Inventory
    Allows adminis to collect Group Policy and other information from any number of computers in their network.

    Best Practices Analysers

    Built in Exchange 2007, The Exchange BPA programmatically collects settings and values from data repositories such as Active Directory, registry, metabase and perfmon. Once collected, a set of comprehensive ‘best practice’ rules are applied to the topology.
    Administrators running this tool will get a detailed report listing the recommendations that can be made to the environment to achieve greater performance, scalability and uptime.

    -Group Policy Diagnostic
    You can use the Microsoft Group Policy Diagnostic Best Practice Analyzer (GPDBPA) tool to collect data about an environment's Group Policy configuration.

    The ISA Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool is designed for administrators who want to determine the overall health of their ISA Server computers and to diagnose current problems. The tool scans the configuration settings of the local ISA Server computer and reports issues that do not conform to the recommended best practices.

    -SQL 2005
    The SQL Server 2005 Best Practices Analyzer (BPA) gathers data from Microsoft Windows and SQL Server configuration settings. BPA uses a predefined list of SQL Server 2005 recommendations and best practices to determine if there are potential issues in the database environment.
