I'm using backup exec for a long time
but since Symantec bought veritas i have a lot of problems with the backups
i want to replace the backup software to something more reliable

BackupExec is really just as good as it used to be.
But there are alternativer - Arcserve, Tapeware, Commvault, just to name a few

my personal preference would still be with BE (unless it is possible to use tar or cpio)

      backup exec has released v12

also i don't know what the requirements are...

if you have the money use netbackup.

or here is some free backup software

      bacula

        IMHO-- BE 12 is horrible--

        I have two "backup servers"

One with Ver 8 works great not a hitch (for legacy systems)

        BE 10d, 11d, 12d- all problematic-

        I agree check out Bacula-
        or schedule jobs with NTbackup

I would agree that 10 and 11d are terrible. I haven't tried 12 yet but I suspect it will be just as bad.
