  • Intranet and SharePoint Server

I was given a task of creating an intranet site for my company. After a little research I think SharePoint server 2007 is the way to go. We are a non-profit organization therefore we can buy the license for the server pretty cheap.
Can anyone give me a feed back or a suggetion.
    Thanks in advance

Why not use SharePoint Services. This is FREE whereas SharePoint Portal Server still costs money even at your non-profit rates.
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

Sharepoint Services is free. Sharepoint Portal Server is not.

Sharepoint Services provides much of the functionallity of Sharepoint Portal Server but scaled down. Microsoft's web site should be able to give you a breakdown of the differences. You don't need any level of experience with HTML or web development unless you want to heavily customize Sharepoint.

Dude, they are two different products.
Windows SharePoint Services is free and at the entry-level from the point of view of its features.
MOSS costs and it is rich in its features.
Like comparing a brand new BMW with a VW Beetle. They both have wheels and doors...

                  Got it ,thanks.
Someone told me that in order to run MOSS I will need to have Share Point services installed and running.
                  Kind of like
                  Exchange and iis services.
Exchange Server will not work without iis.

Something like that, if I remember right...
Anyway, it isn't something you should worry about, it's part of the installation process (again, if I remember right the lectures we had on this subject...)
