  • Typing URL without www

    I have the same issue.

this is my setup! Windows 2003 server with SP2, host multiple websites and have a dynamic ip address. I do my own dynamic DNS service also.

    AD DNS setup is: abccompany.local

my setting in the DNS server are as follows.

This is for the main DNS name abccompany.local

    SOA points to computername.abccompany.local.
    NS points to computername.abccompany.local
Host(A) record points to the local internal ip addresss 1.1.1.32(example)

The second DNS entry looks like this for forwards:

    abbcompany.com

This is for the main DNS name abccompany.local

    SOA points to computername.abccompany.local.
    NS points to computername.abccompany.local
Host(A) record points to the local internal ip addresss of firewall 20.2.1.32(example)
MX points to name -mail MX www.abbcompany.com
A record * to firewall ip address.

    The issue is:

    1) Cannot connect to the internal address of abbcompany.com in a webbrowser,
    2) can not ping from the external to abbcompany.com, however can ping www.abbcompany.com
    3) mail does not seem to be going thru for abbcompany.com.

Can someone point what i am over looking or missing and supply the fix.

    Thanks for your help, Fly

    Re: Typing URL without www

1/ I dont understand what you mean by internal record? Are you using the same DNS Server IP on the local PC's as you are as your external DNS?

2/Sounds like you dont have a record for abb*****.com

3/What mail server are you using, is it an allowed domain?

Send some more info bud and ill help you as much as i can
