  • Alternative RAID Configuration for OS fault tolerance

    Greetings:

I am seeking a solution for an IBM Netfinity 5000 server. I have five drives in a RAID 5 array. Each are 9GB. I know that duplexing/ mirroring is the standard but I would not want to sacrifice two drives with such a small array. Is it possible to connect a sixth drive via SCSI adapter and outside of the array and install the OS to a partition on the RAID? Much thanks for any guidance in this project.

You can use a DAS box like IBM DS:

    http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/jsp/ex...disk/index.jsp

But, due the fact that you own a old (very old) server, Its recommended to replace it with a new server like HP 360 G5.
The price will be less then buy DS usually (and of course, the performance that you will get - will be better)
