  • desktop / my documents and shortcuts

    Hi Guys,

normally if you go to every computer and write on start->run "desktop" or "my documents" it will open the directory for ya,
now from some reason on MY user it won't do that, and for other users it will.
i am Domain Admin, so there is no security issues, my user won't open on several machines where other users can open it.

    Any idea?

Doesn't work for me either and it never has.

I don't think this is meant to happen.

Honest to say, it works for me... At least at home. Nevertheless, on my computer at the office (in AD environment) it does not. I get the same error message you got. Both are XPSP2, fully updated.
No idea so far. I'll keep digging...

        It's obvious another M$ issue
Strange, that it works for other users on the same machines..

This link here explains some, but not why on some computers it does work and some not.
For what its worth; Desktop works on mine but not my documents

            Well it worked for me.

I have been something like that before, certain commands does not work on one OS for example "Shutdown" while they work on another system.

Strange, only the shortcuts and dirs inside C:\Documents and Settings\USER does not work, fonts, or system32 and so works..

                Both worked for me.

is this something related with "User Variables"?

It is curious I know, but is it really worth wasting so much time on this? I know I never have enough time to spend on the networks I look after so something like this wouldn't get a sideways look.

And no, I am not suggesting you stop posting on this topic. If you have the time, the site has the readers. (And you never know I suppose, but we could all learn something important about something else while playing around with this querky "thing".
