  • Can't go inside HTTPS pages

    Hi Guys,

I relplaced my computer with a Newer one
Thing is, now it won't let me go inside HTTPS pages.
I tried to regsvr32 many dlls related to IE i found on some article, rebooted the machine but nothing works.
    It's WIN XP SP2, 128 Bit encryption.
We use a PROXY and it worked on the previous machine via the same proxy.
Any idea what can i do?

    Thanks,

First things first: congratulations for the new toy!
Dude, have you kept the same machine name? Does this happen to all HTTPS sites, or only to specific ones? Are you using your computer to enter some management environments that work on HTTPS (like HP-SIM, for instance)?
Do you have anything in the Event Viewer?

Re: Can't go inside HTTPS pages

      Hi,

i kept the same machine name, in Active Directory, disjoined the old computer and joined the new one to the domain.
I really doubt it has anything to do with that but who knows?
There is nothing on event viewer..

Perhaps, it is related to proxy? Active directory?

      Thanks,

Re: Can't go inside HTTPS pages

Problems with HTTPS can be related to keys interchange. I asked about machine name and specific sites, because think that one of your servers have exchanged keys with the old computer. Suddenly, some other computer, with the same name, but without the proper key, wants to get access. If I was the server, I would show him the three fingers sign (pardon my French ).
It's a direction to follow, might be others too.
What sites are you trying to access? Intranet? Internet? What error do you get? "Access is denied"? "The page could not be displayed"? What IE are you using?
Give me some bread, so I'll start working

              'morning, Retaliator.
Now you're talking. What error message do you receive? What happens if you add Microsoft's site to the Trusted sites? (I know it might sound an oxymoron, but let's try ).

Re: Can't go inside HTTPS pages

                  You can try this:
Open IE (do not open any https sites)
                  - click on Tools / Internet options..
                  - - on tab 'General' delete cookies, and delete files
                  - - on tab 'Content' ---> clear SSL state
                  - - - then choose AutoComplete and there ---> clear Forms
                  - - on tab 'Advanced' check 'use SSL 2.0' and check 'use SLL 3.0'.
                  Close IE

                  now try opening: https://mcp.microsoft.com/mcp

                      the error :

                      The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                      Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
                          Internet Explorer

There's your answer... where are you getting DNS and can it resolve the name?

                          ping mcp.microsoft.com

it doesn't matter whether you get replies; only that you get an IP address.

Sorin, it was running (service) i stopped that but it does not help.

about the PING issue, it is not related to this, because from other machines that WORKS it does not have ping ability.. we use a forwarder DNS, we can't PING web pages directly.

                              Hi, Retaliator.
I didn't meant you to stop it, that's a service you need I just wanted to be sure it is running...
BTW, I use the services' list on The Elder Geek's site for info about XP services.
In general, it's a very good site...
