  • Ghost on Dell 1550 Server - SCSI HD

    Hi Guys,

This might sound silly, but i am just going to ask prior to testing my self.
    I have a DELL 1550 Server, with a MIRROR Raid1 of 2 SCSI HD.
there are two 36 GB HDS which actually are in Windows 36 GB.
Can i use GHOST to make an IMAGE so i can later duplicate that to another offline server ?
If so, any1 has the NDIS Driver for that network card of dell 1550 ?

    Thanks,
    Retaliator

Re: Ghost on Dell 1550 Server - SCSI HD

I back up my HP DL servers with the following setup:
      - an USB-to-IDE adapter (link to a shop in Israel);
      - a 200GB IDE disk;
      - BartPE disk with Ghost client included.

I connect the disk to the server with the adapter and boot the server from the CD. I then open the Ghost and create an image file from the partition I need. At the end, I have a spanned GHO file on the disk.
I did this for all servers I have, that their recovery time is crucial. It proved itself few weeks ago, when I had to recover four servers after a crisis. I had no problem with BartPE recognizing the disks (after all, they were in a hardware RAID1 configuration too). But you should check with your DELL server.
      Hope this info helped.
      Good luck.

I take it Dell had nothing. Did you look at the Intel site???

        http://www.intel.com/support/network.../CS-001917.htm

What drivers do I use for the Intel(R) 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter?

        Solution:

LAN on motherboard (LOM) connections are supported by the motherboard manufacturer. Please contact your supplier for official drivers.

Ethernet Controller drivers can be found from the design site at: http://www.intel.com/design/network/drivers/index.htm

The closest drivers that Intel provides are listed under the Intel® PRO/100+ adapter.
        For DOS:

        Cheers,

        Rick

See www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. It's a nice tool. It is not complicate at all, and it comes prepared with some add-ons in it.

I have license only for Ghost8, so this is what I use. Had no problem neither with Win2000, nor with Win2003 servers. And it recognizes NTFS without any problem.

                    Sorin,

i understand you ghost to another external HD,
what if i want to create a Barte PE Boot CD with GHOST and a few network adapters? i need to add each NIC Driver, or that Builder has anything integrated?

                    Thanks.

Why not make it a little easier and use one of your mirrored drives and move that across to the new server then replace the drive in your old server and recreate the mirror.

I'm presuming you are using a software mirror rather than a hardware one.

You can use ghost very easily to backup the system. Why not create a share on another computer. Create a network bootdisk, i use this one http://www.netbootdisk.com/, map a drive to the share and run ghost from there.

Since I always Ghost to a local-attached disk, I never played with the network. However, BartPE does have some network drivers. To add more, see this page.

I want to have a Boot CD with the option to use GHOST locally, or to a shared folder on a server. How can i add a Ghost 9 / 2003 Plugin to Bart's PE?
                          Thanks & Regards

You have an online help available.
To add a software to BartPE, you have to have it's plug-in available. Meaning, you cannot just add something. Use the links to plug-in sites, a lot of people are doing a good job with them.
