application icon on desktop

  • application icon on desktop

    i have a specific application on 2000 pro i call it app1. i had to install a different
    app on the 200 pro ( app2) . after install, app2 icon on the desktop is using the
    icon of app1 but opens as app2. and app1 is not working and not show on dektop.

    what can cause this kind of confusion. and how to stat troublshuting?

    the two application are small and simple.

    I'm not sure I understood: the icons have the same name? The same symbol?
    Was the original icon a shortcut to a document of some kind? That now opens in the new application, instead of the old one?
    Sounds that somehow the new application was installed on top of the old one. But I'd use some more data before jumping to conclusions.

      As sorinso says we need a little more to help you out mate, sounds like the following but please correct me if i'm wrong.

      Possible scenario?

      You have something like OpenOffice installed (app1)
      You have a .doc shortcut you on the desktop which runs OO so you can edit
      You've installed microsoft office (app2), it slowly takes over your system stealing all file associations
      You curse bill a little
      Microsoft assimulates system slowly
