  • Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 Tape Problem

    Hi all,

Hope you can help me I have a problem with Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 for Windows Servers.

We have Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition installed and were backing up data on Compaq DDS 4 20/40Gb drive.

The server was backing up to 40Gb and using 2 tapes to do this. I decided to buy a new 72Gb drive Quantum SEAGATE DAT72Gb.

This installed fine, but when I try to backup our data, it stops at 38Gb asking for another tape which I do so. When it finished just after 40Gb, it goes through the verifying process (put the 1st tape back in then the 2nd again) so I am doing this while I am in the office when this was planned to run at 11pm and should only take 4hrs.

Can you please help me stop this so we can just use 1 tape a night?

    Thank you

Re: Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 Tape Problem

    You can't.

Here are a couple of things that may help though.

Have you checked that compression is set on the drive??

Have you only selected the most important stuff to backup??

Just for your info. The stated backup of 72GB is a backup at the optimal settings. Lots of files a will not reduce any thus the file will not compress.
