    2. then we create a norton ghost 2003 disket.
    3. we plug external HDD (using USB)..
    4. then we insert norton ghost 2003 disket, to boot from disket.
    5. but we can not create image/clone for DELL Precision workstation 380 n series..it's hang...

Re: norton ghost 2003 in DELL Precision workstation 380 n series

Norton Ghost 2003 have some problem with mainboard compatibilites. If it hangs without starting ghost totally (stays frezed only with background, you cannog to the menus) problem is incompatibility betwen ghost and your computer i think.

If this is what happens than dont try using it from windows becouse after your computer restart it will not boot again in windows becouse of partition created by ghost.

If Ghost boots totaly and lets you to surf inside of menus and hangs in drive selection than problem is unsupported USB.

Re: norton ghost 2003 in DELL Precision workstation 380 n series

      dear friends,

      thank you..

      1.
but how to solve this problem...does we change the mainboard ?

      2.
other solution is we install norton ghost 2003 in the computer .. then we create image from it and copy the image to external HDD...

      3.
last time we installed symantec antivirus from symantec corp (2005)
      full version : 10.0.0.359 (www.symantec.com)..
but after installing to this DELL precision ws 380 n series (O/S windows 2000 prof edition )...we can not connect to the machine (there's a connection to a machine)
using the machine s/w (installed in the pc)....

it's like a port blocked by norton antivirus...

      4.
but does norton ghost 2003 block any port ? we're afraid that after installing norton ghost 2003 in the pc...the s/w of machine can not connect to machine by certain port...

      5..
btw, is there any way to check which port is used by the machine and machine s/w for comm ? vendor of the machine does not provide this info..

      thanks a lot,
      best regards,
      hendy

Re: norton ghost 2003 in DELL Precision workstation 380 n series

Upgrade SAV to latest version 10.1.4.

[from one of his triple posts]
what do you mean by "but it does by default scan network transfers. "?
Whan SAV is installed, network scanning is installed by default. (However if the files are being transfered from a PC that also has SAV 10 installed with a valid certificate, then the files are considered to be coming from a trusted source and not scanned).

I have no idea what is installed with Norton Ghost 2003 as I have only used the Symantec Corp versions. However it is highly unlikely Norton Ghost 2003 installs a firewall therefore it will not be blocking any ports.

Anti virus programs do not block ports, they "block" virii. Firewalls block ports.

As far as Ghost and SAV go, RTFM and learn how to use them. Also check out the Symantec Knowledge Base.
