  • Removing a Partition

I am struggling again to remove a large partition on a drive that also contains Windows XP. It was caused by Mint Linux v 13 failing to install properly, and amend the MBR to provide the options which to activate on start up. I have however managed to repair the MBR with DOS software, so that Windows XP again starts up automatically. Pity though such as Mint is capable of creating a separate partition and install itself on another PC OK, it does not also include an option to delete the partition if required when it closes down.

Therefore I am left with a partition marked unallocated that Gparted running under a Linux refuses to display a Delete option, no an option to allocate it a Volume letter.

    Any suggestions please?

I know it goes against all your principles , but have you tried managing the partition in XP (System management--Disk Management)
You would need to delete the partition and then decide what to do with the freed up space
