Can anyone please suggest why the DVD drive on an older PC will not recognise any Data DVD but it does play DVD Videos?

I did run a dry CD /DVD cleaner with no success.

The problem occurs using either Windows XP or Linux Mint in separate partitions.

    Re: DVD Drive

It most likely has to do with the type of recordable media used to create the different discs. Not all recordable media can be read by all models of device, because of differences in laser light vs color of the media. Different materials used for disc manufacture will give different levels of reflectivity depending on what color or wavelength of light hits it. Commercially manufactured and recorded discs tend to be very backward compatible, while newer DVD-R/+R or DVD-RW/+RW may not work in the same drives.
