Is it possible to use any of the cables such as those shown at

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...All-Categories

to connect a laptop to a modern TV in order to see the laptopís display, if the laptop has the suitable VGA or Scart ports.

Also would it be possible to use the superior HDMI cable if the correct port is on the TV, and would there be any point in doing so?

What exact output does your laptop have -- not SCART, anyway...
And what inputs does the TV have -- makes and models for both would be helpful

Depending on the laptop resolution, and on the TV, HDMI may well be better -- a suitable connector is:

      Re: Laptop and TV

The TV is at a centre our club uses for our meetings, and a variety of laptops might be used for lectures.

I understand the TV is modern one with a VGA, HDMI and perhaps and a Scart port and I assume most laptops have a VGA out port.

If the TV has VGA, just use a standard 15 pin cable (on the ebay list you posted)
Most laptops should have VGA -- if not you can get a USB-VGA adapter e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/#q=usb+to+vg...w=1391&bih=921

I use this one, 2M S-VGA Laptop to PC HD TV Cable with Audio Jack Lead
, and it works great. Got it from Cables-To-Go.

            Re: Laptop and TV

I have a standard blue vga cable (I stole it off the back of a monitor)

my tv has a VGA port, but it also has HDMI ports.
Some tvs will have S-video as well. (As do some laptops)

hmdi or svga is your best option here. It just depends on what both have.

              Re: Laptop and TV

I have used both VGA and HDMI. VGA works great but you need to be careful with HDMI. I have a GTX480 card and the HDMI picture quality is terrible where there are dark areas on the screen. VGA is guaranteed, IMO.
