  • Can you grade the following processors?

I'm considering buying a new laptop for quite basic computational tasks. The four models I consider include the following 4 different processors:

    M370
    M380
    P6100
    SU7300
Can you rank order their quality?

Doubt those first 2 CPUs are correct as they're 7 years old.

Please define "quite basic computational tasks". If really basic then a NetBook with a dual core Atom may be suitable.
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

Strange it may sound, but these two laptops are offered widely in Israel:

        1. Inspiron N3010 i3-380M GMA HDDell

        2. ProBook 4320s WS910EAHP

The main purposes of the unit are surfing, word-processing and preparing/editing/watching powerpoit presentations.

Can you suggest any specific model(s) to consider?

Only problem with a netbook (IMHO) is the lack of screen estate -- a bigger one with a decent resolution display would make life easier.

            What is your budget?

Re: Can you grade the following processors?

                OK, about 550 or US$900
Plenty of scope there for something with e.g. an i3 at 2+GHz, 4Gb RAM and c. 500Gb HDD on a 1366x768 (15.6 inch) display

Just as examples, look at some of the specs here:
                http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/....asp?CatId=602

IMHO you cannot go far wrong with an established brand like HP or Toshiba, but dont be afraid to look at other (e.g. ASUS/ACER) if you get more "bang for your buck"

Keep in mind it is not just the processor but the whole package you must consider. For example, more RAM generally gives more of a boost than a faster processor, and depending on what you are doing, screen size/resolution or drive space may come into it.

Last week Lenovo had a ThinkPad Edge E520, i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Burner, 15.6" screen for AUD$609. AUD$669 if you wanted a dedicated 1GB video card.
                  1 1 was a racehorse.

                    Thanks for the information.
Still, since I've already bought a laptop, please don't bother with updates and suggestions.
