  • AMD Opteron

I have a couple of Opterons to sell on eBay ... trouble is I don't know how to identify what they are.

With Intel CPU's there is a 5 or 6 character code (like "SL9400" which is a Core 2 Duo, 6M/1.86/1066) but the AMD one seems to be more about "stepping" so anyone know how I go about telling exactly which CPU's I have?

Are they still in a working machine?
If out of a machine, what is written/etched on the processor?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

No they aren't and, though I know they work, I have no means of testing them.

Looking at the top side so the writing on them generally faces me and reading top to bottom both have "AMD Opteron TM" (top) and "Diffused in Germany" & "Made in Malaysia" (bottom)

      Under "AMD Opteron" CPU#1 has:

      0S2356WAL4BGH
      GAAAB AA 0902BPGW
      0075903A90252

And written sideways on (to the right) is "AMD" & " 2006 AMD"

      Under "AMD Opteron" CPU#2 has:

      OS2376PAL4DGI
      CACYC AC 0921EPMW
      9255666G90186

And, again, written sideways on (to the right) is "AMD" & " 2008 AMD"

      Thanks for looking

        Re: AMD Opteron

I would hazard a guess that the "OS23x6...." string represents an identifier of some sort.

2356 and 2376 are slightly removed, suggesting one to be faster or newer than the other, maybe.

        I=m guessing though....

STOP guess and start Googling. GAAAB AA 0902BPGW took 30 seconds.
          http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...l=&oq=&gs_rfai=

          Second (of 2 links) http://www.cpu-world.com/step_codes/G/GAAAB%20AA.html

          Second CPU - http://www.cpu-world.com/step_codes/C/CACYC%20AC.html

Kyuuketsuki, now you can go and find the specific model.

          2 2 was 1 2.

            Hi Guys,

Just a quick note to say that Wiki has a good page on AMD CPU's:

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...icroprocessors

Very useful and thanks for the earlier replies
