  • Raid array and booting from dvd rom

    Hello all! Got a question:

I am using an on-board Raid controller (XFX 750a sli), and when I enable RAID in the BIOS, I cannot boot from DVD-rom to install Win Server 2008. It doesn't even show up in boot list.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Justin

is it an IDE or SATA DVD?
Does it show up at all in the BIOS?

The DVD is SATA, and yes it shows up on the first screen, but not in boot order.

        Sounds like a dodgy BIOS!
        Try
        a) Resetting to default
        b) Flashing the BIOS if you can

What is the MoBo make and model?

          XFX 750a sli (nforce chipset)
          BIOS=AMI BIOS v08.00.15

Everything worked great in SATA mode I installed everything perfectly... Only dissapears in RAID mode.
          Setup is this:
          1 DVD_ROM
          2 500GB SATA Hard drives

          Thanks,
          Justin

What are the boot options you get?
I've tried the XFX site but for support you need to register!

Re: Raid array and booting from dvd rom

              Thanks for the help.
I reset to default and was able to set boot order:
              1 RAID: DSK00 DVD_RAM
              2 RAID: ARY01 nvidia

              Now comes the fun part:
Windows server recognized the array drive but says BIOS won't let OS be installed on it... Should I take this to the software forum?

Ok, problem resolved (although, I am not sure what I did)
REbooted a couple of times -nothing
Booted to BIOS and look around, then rebooted and viola! W2k08 is now installing! I sure wish I knew what the hitch was, but at least we are moving ahead!
Thanks to Ossian for you help!

              Regards,
              Justin
