  • Team 2 NICs on HP Pro:oiant DL160 G6?

    Hi all,

I hope this is the right sub-forum. if not, feel free to move it, mods! I have a brand new HP ProLiant DL160 G6. I have a great many questions and will be starting a great many threads, but I wanted to start with this one... I'm very new to all this so please bear with my questions if they seem silly... Haven't built a server, let alone that 8 I have to bring up, in 10 years... This server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.

Anyway, it has 2 Gigabit NICs, both HP NC362i adapters.

Can these 2 NICs be teamed for use as a single 2Gbps connection?

If so, can someone please tell me how to do it?

And... Does this make sense to do? My last company did this, and it seems to make sense to me...

At the moment, the server is getting DHCP addresses to both NICs. I want to "team" them and assign static IP info.

So in a nutshell, CAN they be teamed, should they be teamed, and how do I do it if so?

    THANKS!

    Chris

Sure, they can. In general, it as a good idea to use teaming, if
      1. you can afford to allocate two ports in a router (or more).
      2. you are not planning to use other adapter(s) for different purpose (such as having separate trunk & access networks).

Make sure you have PSP 8.30 installed. Then you should have a little HP Network icon in the system tray. This is how you can enable teaming:
      - Double click this icon, proceed to a screen where all your NICs are listed.
      - Select two of them with just a single click. No CTRL/SHIFT combos.
      - Click 'Team' button to the right.
      - Click OK. Wait until configuration is done.
      - Now a third NIC should appear in your network settings, to which you can assign a static IP.
