  • Does my processor supports hardware-assisted virtualization ?

This question arises a lot... Sometimes prior the purchase of a computer, sometimes when the box is already on the table and the needs arise (Hyper-V? Windows 7's XP Mode?)
Well, you can always check for yourself:
For Intel processors, there's the list on their site.
For AMD processors, there's a small tool.

And there's always GRC's SecurAble, that gives further information (see the screenshot bellow) .

I was just working on a computer that did not have VT.
Now I will know in advance, You just saved me a load of time

And just to take this a wee bit. While you are checking your VT status, also give Shieldsup a whirl while on grc.com

This was the trigger for this post
I was eager and happy to upgrade my Vista computer to 7. Right after that I installed XP Mode, only to discover that my processor has no VT capabilities

a quick addition - if you found that VT was disabled in the bios, and you had to enable it, you have to do a full powercycle of the system, otherwise, the VT will not kick in in most systems
