  • How to extend the system partition on Server 2003 RAID 5?

    Hi guys,

I have a Dell Poweredge that I setup using a RAID 5 config on Windows Server 2003. My C:\ drive(system volume) has only 3550Mb space left and I would like to find something that can successfully resize the partition without losing data as this is a production server.

But I used Acronis Disk Director and Partition Magic to deal with it but failed. Have any other SW could resize.
    Thank you in advance.

Resize? How? On another free disk? On another partition on the same logical disk?
What model is the Dell server? What RAID controller do you have there?

resizing is a bad idea, with about 50% chance of success - not acceptable for production systems.

      so,
      1. add the new disk, go into OMSA, extend the array with the disk
      2. backup the system, test backup
      3. format the VD with the additional disk
      4. Install fresh windows, restore the backup.

It's doable with Openmanage as far as I'm aware. If your server is still in warranty call Dell and get them to walk you through the process, and make sure you have a 100% valid and complete backup before attempting it.

partition magic doesn't compatible with server 2003, disk director should solve your problem. If it failed, tool, you may try easeus partition master, a free and good tool to resize partition. You'd better close other apps and chkdsk, backup before you do partition resizing by any sw. there is a tutorial to resize raid 5 partition on server, check www. partition-tool. com/resource/resize-raid-5.htm
