  • General protection fault press any key to boot from cd?

    In windows xp I am not able to see, my dvd writter. I checked in device manager, It shows exclamatory mark. So I put bootable cd in dvd rom and tried to boot, then it ask me press any key, and after pressing a key it gave above error

    faulty physical device
    or
    faulty interconnection
    or
    faulty chipset

    first tihngs first. make sure the power and sata/ide cables are firmly attached at both ends, and oriented correctly.
    Ensure you have any master/slave jumpers set correctly.

    Then try booting again. If you can, see if the BIOS detects the cdrom at all.

    if that doesn't work, try a different DVDrom (borrow one from a friend)
    this will allow us to determine if the drive itself is faulty, or if it's something else.

    if the new drive doesn't work either, and you're definite it's configured right, then it's probaby the chipset, buy a new motherboard/computer.

    if te new drive works, then it's likely your current drive - so buy a replacement.

      Have a look at the error in Device Manager. If it is a Code 39 error, try this solution. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

      If not a Code 39, then the above post has good advice.
