What email software are you using?
    Which version?

Is there a mailserver involved, if so, what?

We can help you a lot if we have more information, but at present you are asking us to find an individual snowflake in a blizzard!

        Try repairing Office first.

            Click on Microsoft Office.
            Click on Change.

              1 1 was a racehorse.
              2 2 was 1 2.

No, you will not lose any settings as they should all be in your exchange mailbox.

What happens if the user tries logging onto a different PC -- same problems or is it OK?

What happens if another user logs onto the problem PC?

ALL data should be backed up at frequent regular intervals (like every day) and should also be backed up especially before attempting anything like repairing a problem.
