  • Excel 2003 Resetting permissions

    Hi
    We have an odd problem.
We have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet being opened off a network share by a variety of PCs. Some PCs have Office 2007 and these work fine. Unfortunately on of the PCs has 2003. If we attempt to save the document from this PC, the file permissions get reset.
The owner gets changed to the user of that PC, they are granted full access and the domain user group granted only read access.
Obviously this causes a bit of a problem but is unusual because the 2003 machine is the one causing a problem with a 2003 file..
    Any suggestions?

Has the Office 2007 Compatibilty Pack been installed on the 2003 machines? I am wondering if someon with Office 2007 has saved the file with some 2007 "bits" and 2003 is having trouble with it.

It wasn't previously installed but I have installed it as part of the testing and it made no different. Thanks for the suggestion though

        Re: Excel 2003 Resetting permissions

Have you tried opening the document with Excel 2007 and then saving it as a 2003 spreadsheet?
If that makes no difference, open with Excel 2003 and then save it again.

Oops, you said the Permission gets reset. Change the File Permission from Full Control to Modify. See if that helps.
