  • Autotext issue with docgen

    Hi guys

We use a docgen that uses a template (.dot) and pulls some information from a database to create standard letters etc...

Some users are having issues with autotext and this system. Basically after they create a letter... they cannot access all of their autotext. Infact it seems that they can only access OLDER items in their autotext?!

I have no idea how this is happening.

    Any ideas, what-so-ever?

    Thanks

    Known problem in Word 2.0
If you are using a different version, a clue as to which would be appreciated

Ha, ok- you make a good point. I wrote the thread without much thought.

We are running Office 2003 on Windows XP machines.

On a side now, bloody impressive bit of certification there Ossian....

What is the "docgen" -- some custom program or is it an add-in to MS Word?
        Do I have this straight:
Autotext OK (can access any item)
        Run DocGen, do merge etc.
        Quit from Word
        Open a new document
Autotext only shows old items (what is the cut off point?)

          Re: Autotext issue with docgen

Docgen isn't an add in, it's some custom software we run.

Ok, let me try and explain this properly

User opens word, autotext is all there. Adds a new autotext eg "test". User exits Words, goes back into it and it's still there. No problem.

User creates a document via the docgen. The "test" autotext isn't present but some of the older autotexts are.

If the user then closes all instances of word down and goes back into it. "Test" will be there.

Not sure of the cutoff date, hard to work out when the user added autotext (lots of entries) unfortunatly.

I believe that some, if not all, autotext is template specific.
