  • Office 2010 activation via MAK or KMS server

    Hi,

I am in the process of deploying office 2010 for my 80 client machines. I need to use either MAK (prefer) or KMS activation.

Currently i have MAK key setup in my MSP file but when I deploy it user still get asked for activation.

    follwed from here
    http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000464.htm

But if I use KMS activation it doesn't ask for activation but then I don't have

Now the question is how do it fix the activation in deploy or setup KMS server to activate office 2010 key.

I did google search which only comes up with Windows activation. Will that same process work for office activation? currently

Have you reviewed the MAK activation using the VAMT 2.0 tool?

KMS server wise, you would deploy a KMS server and configure it to allow Office 2010 activation, so can be an existing or new deployment. I would recommend that you use Windows 2008 R2 for the KMS server.

With OCT, you can add in the setup properties AUTO_ACTIVATE with value 1

or you can use the command line and run the script after the install: "%windir%\system32\cscript.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ospp.vbs" /act

I do tend to think 'outside the box' so others may not always share the same views.

        didn't work for me.

I like the idea or using VAMT 2.0 tool as it shows how many "remaining activation"

If I install this on on of the DC and Provide the product key in it.

How do the clients contact the DC and how does it know where to look for the key? and activation after the install?

You need to setup a KMS server

You would use the KMS key on the server and it will automatically resgister itself as a KMS server. The KMS server once you have configured for Office 2010 as well can then activate Windows and Office. It will not automatically activate Windows 7 until 20 connections have been made from Clients and Windows 2008 R2 until there have been 5. You would NOT use the KMS server key for other servers. You would use an enterprise agreement license that supports activation with a KMS server. If a KMS server key is available via your licensing agreement, you should have access to the relevant license keys that supports KMS.
