  • Automatically append subject line with string

    Hi,

I need to automatically append the outlook subject title with a predefined string ie [Encrypt].
    I have had a look at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc668191.aspx

But just wondering if there was another method that can be easily incorporated into outlook and deployed widely ?

    TIA

Are you using Exchange 2007 or above?
If so, Hub Transport rules will do it

      Thanks Tom,

Sorry forgot to mention, It needs to be on the client side.

      In a nutshell,
I have deployed an e-mail encryption appliance that encrypts any outgoing e-mails that meet a certain criteria, in our case a subject string.

The requirements are not to enforce this but to give the user a choice (Otherwise we could amend the rule on the appliance itself or use the transport rule you mention)

        Sorry -- should have thought...
In that case, I think you have no options except a custom add-in

Re: Automatically append subject line with string

You could use a VBA for Outlook. This works for Outlook 2010:

          Code:
Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)
              Dim olkRecipient As Outlook.Recipient

             item .Subject = item.Subject & " [Encrypt]"
             item.Save

          End Sub
          To deploy: http://www.outlookcode.com/article.aspx?id=28

So if you want the most elegant method then an Add-in is the way to go. But if you're like me and have limited programming knowledge then a VBA project is quick and easy.

Re: Automatically append subject line with string

Oops, just read your second post, Landy. My code will append to all emails sent.
A macro could definitely append it to the subject but I don't know of anyway to automatically deploy a button for users to click.

Re: Automatically append subject line with string

              Thanks for the suggestion JeremyW,

I might have to stick with the Add in for now and create a custom button.
We managed to get that done with a Macro but the deployment part was a bit of a challenge.
The add in option will obviously give us more flexibility for that.
