  • Error connection refused....to mailserver sometimes

We have MDaemon Email Server for Windows at Location A and we have POP3 mail accounts and accessing mails.

But sometimes we are are not able to communicate to mail server; means our mailbox doesn't connect it shows error "-ERR Connection refused" when we telnet to mailserver.

But this problem resolves automatically without having to do anything. And happens anytime and resolves on its own after sometime. Its not problem with internet; internet is working fine at that time when this problem occurs.

Both Location's have leasedline connections so no bandwidth issues.

    What would be problem??

have you looked at the mdaemon logs?
is mdaemon licenced based on the number of users or anything like that?

Even with leased lines, bandwidth can be an issue.
Have you raised this with MDaemon?

What email client and MDaemon version are you using?
What OSes are they running on?
How are you resolving the mail server -- name or IP?

More info about your infrastructure generally, please

When this problem occurs internet is working absolutely fine, also thing to note is that i have another personal general POP3(like gmail, hotmail &rediffmail) account which is working fine. I have no idea about Mdaemon version since its managed by other remote team.
for resolving mail server name is by normal isp given entries.

          Infrastructure...
Its basic work-group environment no servers at Location B(means our-side)
Clients use MS Outlook to connect mail server with POP3 accounts configured on it.

            What Operating Systems are involved?
Have you discussed the issue with the "other remote team"?

Discussed with remote team they said no issue from there side, and our ISP says its not problem them also.

              1 more observation is...
When i use portable USB internet access devices on same systems i am able to send/receive without any problems. while this issue exists.

Is there a vpn connection between the two sites?or does it just go out over a normal internet circuit etc?

No VPN, just plain normal internet access.

Re: Error connection refused....to mailserver sometimes

ok. you mentioned above that if you use a separate internet connection while the issue is occuring, the issue doens't occur.

what that tells us is the error is more than likely with the internet circuit, or the router at your site.

what sort of router is it ?

the most likely scenario is that the router, or the internet circuit, is seeing too many connection requests at once, so it is throttling. (Of course, the mdaemon server could be doing the same)

But i tried without Router in between.

I directly connected a laptop to ISP's device directly before it passes to our router. Still issue same in problem times.

So the issue is more or less confirmed to be with the ISP (either yours or at the other end)

Call them, and don't take "NO" for an answer

Could you please give us ALL the information needed to help you - it took 13 posts to find out that this problem affects only one POP3 account (so I presume others on the same mail server have never exhibited the problem?).

In earlier posts you talked about "we" so unless you are some form of royalty the implication is that you are talking about multiple users.
