  • "what protocol carries HTML"

I just completed this question in a test for something.

I had a number of answers, among which was "HTTP" and "TCPIP"

I chose HTTP, because TCP carries HTTP, and HTML is carried by HTTP.
THe quiz then told me I ws wrong.

Is HTTP an acceptable answer do you think ?

Well, I would have said HTTP too:
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol carries Hyper Text Markup Language

But of course TCP/IP does the actual transfer so you could see why thats said....

      Re: "what protocol carries HTML"

oh I can totally understand how TCPIP is a valid correct answer. I just also beleive my answer was valid. HTTP specifically carries HTML, where as TCPIP Carries any connection oriented traffic, and doesn't give a flying FK about what it is :P

Another question was: "what does ping do"
      1. checks if a remote computer is up
      2. counts the hops between 2 computers
      3. checks the total round trip time
      4. some other crap i forget.

now, I argue that 1 and 3 are accurate, but that 3 is MORE accurate for these two reasons:
      a) I can have a running computer that's blocking all icmp traffic
      b) I can have a computer responding to ICMP, that's completely and utterly out of srevice otherwise (and I've seen this.)

ping DEFINITELY checks the round trip time.

I still ended up with a phone interview so I might discuss it then :P

        Re: "what protocol carries HTML"

This is probably one of those ambiguous questions. Technically both http which is an application layer protocol and TCP (not TCP/IP) which is the transport protocol of choice for http can be the correct answer but it all depends what they mean by "carries"
